Oct 9-13

Hello families!   The fund walk was a great success last Friday!  It was great to see all those that could make it.  I look forward to seeing you at conferences this week or next as well!  This week in reading our focus will shift towards decoding and "good reader" strategies.  These are things like looking at pictures, finding chunks in words, and taking a guess to move on.  We will also work on what are called cueing strategies such as "does that sound like a word I know?" or "does that word i'm sounding out make sense in the sentence?" These are things that good readers do to help them sound out words.

We've started math homework as well!  The first few don't require much "work" but more conversations about what we're doing in math.  Look for these each night Monday-Thursday.  It will take us a while to build up the responsibility of putting it in our folders and getting it to and from school each day, but we'll get there!

This week we also have Mrs. Johnson, our school counselor, coming in to teach us about respect and our Gifted and Talent teacher, Mrs. Moe, coming in to help us stretch our thinking!  What a week!
